(a)Each semiconductor rectifier system must have an adequate heat removal system that prevents overheating.

(b)Where a semiconductor rectifier system is used in a propulsion system or in other vital systems it must:

(1)Have a current limiting circuit;

(2)Have external overcurrent protection; and

(3)Meet Sections 35.84.2 and 35.84.4 of the ABS Steel Vessel Rules (incorporated by reference; see 46 CFR 175.600) or other standard specified by the Commandant. [CGD 85-080, 61 FR 997, Jan. 10, 1996, as amended by USCG-2003-16630, 73 FR 65210, Oct. 31, 2008]
