USCG Exam PracticeRunning fix from a single object
When only a single charted object is available for observation, a navigator can obtain a running fix by:
- A. Taking one bearing and advancing it along the DR track until it intersects the vessel's course line
- ✓ Taking two bearings to the same object at different times and advancing the first LOP to the time of the secondCorrect
- C. Taking a simultaneous range and bearing to the object using radar
- D. Plotting the DR position at the time of the single bearing observation
Why B is correct
A running fix from a single object requires two bearings taken at different times. The first LOP is advanced along the DR track to the time of the second observation; their intersection is the running fix. Bowditch Ch. 7 §702.
