USCG Exam PracticeRule 30 — Anchored and Aground (lights)

A vessel is aground at night. In addition to the anchor lights appropriate to her length, what additional lights shall she exhibit if practicable under the Inland Navigation Rules?

  1. Two all-round red lights in a vertical lineCorrect
  2. B. Three all-round red lights in a vertical line
  3. C. Two all-round white lights in a vertical line
  4. D. One all-round red light and one all-round white light in a vertical line

Why A is correct

33 CFR §83.30(d)(i) requires a vessel aground to exhibit, in addition to the anchor lights prescribed in §83.30(a) or (b), two all-round red lights in a vertical line where they can best be seen, if practicable. Three balls in a vertical line are the corresponding daytime shape per §83.30(d)(ii), not an additional light.
