USCG Exam Practice · Fire extinguishers — types, ratings, requirements
Under 33 CFR §175.310, which of the following conditions renders a portable fire extinguisher NOT in good and serviceable working condition?
- AThe pressure gauge reads in the operable range.
- BThe lock pin is firmly in place.
- CThe discharge nozzle shows visible obstruction.✓ correct
- DThe extinguisher label indicates it was manufactured after January 1, 1965.
Why C is correct
33 CFR §175.310(a)(4)(iii) requires the discharge nozzle to be clean and free of obstruction as a condition of good and serviceable working condition. A blocked nozzle fails this requirement. The manufacture date alone does not render an extinguisher unserviceable.
