USCG Exam PracticeVisual piloting — three-bearing fixes, danger bearings
A line of position (LOP) derived from a single bearing observation tells you that your vessel:
- A. Is located at the exact point where the bearing line crosses the chart
- ✓ Lies somewhere along that bearing line at the moment of observationCorrect
- C. Has a confirmed fix that can be used without further observations
- D. Is on a collision course with the observed object
Why B is correct
An LOP is a line along which the vessel is known to lie at a given moment based on a single observation. A single LOP does not establish a fix; two or more simultaneous LOPs are required for that. Bowditch Ch. 7 §701.
