USCG Exam Practice · Rule 24 — Towing and Pushing (lights)
An inconspicuous, partly submerged object being towed is 30 meters in breadth and 80 meters in length. Which lights must it exhibit at night?
- AOne all-round white light at or near each end
- BFour all-round white lights to mark its length and breadth, and a diamond shape at the aftermost extremity✓ correct
- CFour all-round white lights to mark its length and breadth only
- DTwo all-round white lights at each end and a diamond shape
Why B is correct
33 CFR §83.24(g)(ii) requires four all-round white lights to mark the length and breadth of an inconspicuous partly submerged object 25 meters or more in breadth. §83.24(g)(iv) additionally requires a diamond shape at or near the aftermost extremity. The object is only 80 meters in length so no additional intermediate lights are required under §83.24(g)(iii).
