USCG Exam PracticeRule 10 — Traffic Separation Schemes
A vessel using a traffic separation scheme is obliged to cross a traffic lane. How shall she cross?
- A. At as small an angle to the general direction of traffic flow as practicable
- ✓ On a heading as nearly as practicable at right angles to the general direction of traffic flowCorrect
- C. By passing through the nearest separation zone
- D. By joining the lane at its termination before crossing
Why B is correct
33 CFR §83.10(c) requires that when a vessel is obliged to cross a traffic lane, she shall do so on a heading as nearly as practicable at right angles to the general direction of traffic flow. Crossing at a small angle is the requirement for joining or leaving a lane from the side, not for crossing.
