USCG Exam PracticeRule 24 — Towing and Pushing (lights)

An inconspicuous, partly submerged object being towed is 20 meters in breadth and 80 meters in length. How many all-round white lights must it exhibit?

  1. One at each end — two totalCorrect
  2. B. Four lights to mark its length and breadth
  3. C. Three lights equally spaced along its length
  4. D. Two lights at each end — four total, plus additional lights so spacing does not exceed 100 meters

Why A is correct

Rule 24(g)(i) requires one all-round white light at or near each end when the object is less than 25 meters in breadth. At 20 meters breadth this object falls below the 25-meter threshold, so two lights (one at each end) are required. The four-light requirement of Rule 24(g)(ii) applies only when breadth is 25 meters or more.
