USCG Exam Practice · Rule 28 — Constrained by Draft (lights)

A mine clearance vessel is underway and making way at night. In addition to the lights prescribed for a power-driven vessel in Rule 23, she exhibits three all-round green lights. One light is placed near the foremast head; where are the other two placed?

  1. AOne at each end of the fore yard✓ correct
  2. BOne at the stern and one at the bow
  3. COne on each bridge wing
  4. DOne at the mainmast head and one at the stern

Why A is correct

33 CFR §83.27(f) specifies that for a vessel engaged in mine clearance operations, one of the three all-round green lights shall be exhibited near the foremast head and one at each end of the fore yard. These lights warn other vessels not to approach within 1,000 meters.
