USCG Exam PracticeRule 28 — Constrained by Draft (lights)

Under the Inland Rules, a vessel not under command that is making way through the water is required to exhibit which combination of lights?

  1. Two all-round red lights, sidelights, and a sternlightCorrect
  2. B. Three all-round lights (red-white-red), sidelights, and a sternlight
  3. C. Two all-round red lights and a masthead light only
  4. D. Two all-round red lights and an all-round white light

Why A is correct

33 CFR §83.27(a) prescribes two all-round red lights in a vertical line for a vessel not under command. Paragraph (a)(iii) adds that when making way through the water, sidelights and a sternlight are also required. The red-white-red combination applies to vessels restricted in ability to maneuver, not NUC vessels.
