USCG Exam PracticeCourse to steer to compensate for current
An estimated position (EP) differs from a DR position in that the EP:
- A. Is derived from two or more simultaneous lines of position
- B. Uses only course steered and speed through the water
- ✓ Is the DR position corrected for estimated current set and driftCorrect
- D. Is plotted only when a GPS fix is unavailable for more than 24 hours
Why C is correct
The EP is obtained by laying off the current's set and drift vector from the DR position for the elapsed time. It is the best available position between fixes when current can be estimated but a fix cannot be obtained.
