1. Who we are

CaptainsGround (captainsground.com, the “Service”) is operated by Northpine Labs LLC (“CaptainsGround”, “we”, “us”, “our”). By creating an account, purchasing a plan, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms & Conditions (the “Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

CaptainsGround is an independent study tool for U.S. Coast Guard credential exams (OUPV, Master, and related endorsements). It provides lessons, practice questions, mock exams, flashcards, and study plans built from public federal sources (33 & 46 CFR, the Navigation Rules, and Bowditch).

• CaptainsGround is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard or the National Maritime Center.
• The Service is an educational aid. It is not legal, professional, or navigational advice, and it does not replace the official examination, application, or credentialing process.
• Except where a plan expressly states otherwise (see the Pass Promise on our pricing page), we do not guarantee any exam outcome.

3. Accounts

You need an account for most features. You must provide accurate information, keep your credentials secure, and be at least 13 years old. You are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Plans and billing

The Service offers a free tier and paid plans: a recurring Monthly subscription, a one-time Exam Prep Pass (90 days of access), and a one-time Until You Pass plan (12 months of access). Current pricing and inclusions are listed on the pricing page.

Orders are processed by our merchant of record, Paddle, who handles payment, applicable taxes, receipts, and customer billing support. Your purchase is also subject to Paddle’s Buyer Terms.

• The Monthly subscription renews each month until cancelled. You can cancel anytime from your account settings or via the link in your Paddle receipt; access continues to the end of the paid period.
• The Exam Prep Pass and Until You Pass plans are one-time purchases — they do not auto-renew and simply expire at the end of their access window.

5. Refunds

We offer a 14-day refund policy, described in full in our Refund Policy.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• share accounts or resell access to the Service;
• scrape, bulk-download, or redistribute the question bank, lessons, or flashcards;
• probe, disrupt, or circumvent the Service’s security or access controls;
• use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

7. Intellectual property

The underlying federal source texts (the CFR, the Navigation Rules, Bowditch) are public domain. Everything we build on top of them — the lessons, explanations, question bank, flashcards, software, and design — is owned by Northpine Labs LLC or its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the Service for your own exam preparation. No other rights are granted.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. While every lesson and answer is cited to its source and audited, we do not warrant that content is error-free, complete, or current with the latest regulatory changes, or that the Service will be uninterrupted. Always verify requirements with the National Maritime Center before acting on them.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Northpine Labs LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, arising out of your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim arose.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these Terms; if we terminate without cause while you have a paid plan, we will refund the unused portion.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Northpine Labs LLC is a Wyoming limited liability company.
