Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data CaptainsGround (captainsground.com), operated by Northpine Labs LLC, collects and how it is used. The short version: we collect what is needed to run a study tool — your account, your study activity, and product analytics — and we do not sell your data.

1. Data we collect

• Account data. Email address, name (if provided), and authentication identifiers, managed through our sign-in provider Clerk. We never see or store your password.
• Study activity. Your onboarding profile (target credential, exam date), drill answers, mock-exam results, flashcard reviews, progress, and study plan — the core of the product.
• Billing data. Purchases are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle handles your payment details; we never receive or store card numbers. We store only your plan, its status, and Paddle transaction references.
• Usage analytics. Pages viewed, features used, and referral source, collected via PostHog to improve the product. Error reports go to Sentry.
• Feedback. Ratings and free-text feedback you choose to submit.

2. Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and browser storage for sign-in sessions (Clerk), analytics (PostHog), and remembering how you first found the site (attribution). We do not run third-party advertising trackers.

3. How we use data

• to provide the Service: track progress, schedule reviews, build study plans;
• to process purchases and manage plan entitlements;
• to understand usage and improve content and features;
• to respond to support requests;
• to send transactional email (receipts, account notices).

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use your personal data to train AI models.

4. Service providers

Your data is processed by these providers on our behalf:

• Clerk — authentication
• Paddle — payments and tax (merchant of record)
• Railway — application and database hosting
• Cloudflare — DNS, CDN, and file storage
• PostHog — product analytics
• Sentry — error monitoring

5. Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account from settings or by emailing us — this removes your personal data from our systems, except records we must keep for tax and accounting (held by Paddle) and minimal logs kept for security.

6. Your rights

You can request a copy of your data, correct it, or have it deleted at any time by emailing [email protected]. Depending on where you live (e.g., the EU/EEA, UK, or California), you may have additional statutory rights; we honor such requests regardless of location.

7. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
