USCG Exam PracticeRunning fix from a single object
An estimated position (EP) differs from a DR position in that the EP:
- A. Is plotted from the last fix using course and speed through the water only
- B. Is derived from two simultaneous LOPs corrected for compass error
- C. Advances the most recent LOP along the DR track for the elapsed time
- ✓ Applies an estimated current set and drift vector to the DR positionCorrect
Why D is correct
Bowditch Ch. 8 §803 defines the EP as the DR position corrected for estimated set and drift of the current. The DR position itself uses only course steered and distance run, ignoring current (§801).
