USCG Exam PracticeRunning fix from a single object
An estimated position (EP) differs from a DR position in that the EP:
- A. Is plotted using two simultaneous LOPs rather than course and speed alone.
- B. Is plotted at every course change and at least once per hour on the chart.
- ✓ Is derived from the DR position corrected for estimated current set and drift.Correct
- D. Is derived from the DR position corrected for compass deviation and variation.
Why C is correct
Bowditch Ch. 8 §803 defines the EP as the DR position corrected for estimated set and drift of the current. Set is the direction toward which the current flows; drift is its speed. The EP is plotted as a dot inside a square.
