Georgia Captain's License

OUPV (Six-Pack) and Master credentials for charter operators in Georgia.

TL;DR

Georgia does not issue its own captain's license — the credential is the federal USCG OUPV or Master license. The nearest USCG Regional Examination Center is Charleston, SC / Miami, FL. Coastal Georgia captains usually pursue OUPV Near-Coastal for offshore Black Gum and bluewater trips. Inland river guides on the Savannah or Altamaha typically hold OUPV Inland.

  2. Pass a USCG-approved physical (CG-719K) and drug test (CG-719P).
  3. Submit your application package to the National Maritime Center.
  4. Schedule and pass the written exam at REC Charleston, SC / Miami, FL, or at any USCG-approved third-party course that grants exam authority.
  5. Complete the TWIC card application and CPR/First Aid certification before the credential is issued.
